There are 3 main BMR genes (6, 12, 18). BMR gene 6 gives the highest levels of digestibility and animal performance. Increases have been recorded of up to 30% in beef produced per ton of feed when compared with conventional hay grazers. Surpass also has a relative feed quality comparable to alfalfa making Surpass an excellent choice for a summer annual. The large number and size of leaves makes Surpass a superior hay product. The rapid regrowth and superior disease resistance insure a long productive hay season. Up to 4 cuts per year is possible in the desert southwest and 2 cuts in the northern tier of the states. As in all grass production schemes, yields are primarily dependent upon water availability and fertility. Plant mid-May to July.
